Course in Miracles [ACIM]: Channeled writings
begun around 1965, completed in 1972 and first published
in 1976. From a Christian perspective, it expands into
more universal spiritual principles and refers to concepts
from other ancient texts. Its main focus is on forgiveness
and relationships. It is a popular text of many study
groups.
Acupresssure:
In Eastern medicine, the body is viewed as an energy pattern
with the energy flowing along specific pathways called
meridians. When the flow of energy becomes blocked, we
experience pain or illness. Acupressure utilizes firm
finger pressure on specific points on the body's meridians
to unblock and balance the energy flow to promote relaxation
and healing. Some styles of acupressure are Shiatsu, Jin
Shin Do, and Do In (Chinese). It is normally used to treat
muscle tension, aches, pains, cramps, etc. as well as

Acupuncture
is an ancient system of Chinese medicine. It adjusts and
balances the flow of life energy in the body by the insertion
of very fine, sterile needles into precise points. It
is used for all ailments, and it is very helpful in alleviating
pain. It is a powerful tool for stress management and
wellness maintenance, as well as significantly improving
chronic illness.
Acupuncture
Facelift: A painless, safe, non-surgical method
of reducing the signs of the aging process.
Acutonics®:
Sound therapy, drawing on science, music, metaphysics,
ancient truths, philosophical traditions, and both Eastern
and Western medicine to create an integrated and harmonic
approach to health care and healing.
Aesthetician:
A person who practices aesthetics, the care and
beautification of the skin, including but not limited
to cleaning, applying cosmetics, oils, lotions, clay,
creams, antiseptics, powders, tonics to or massaging,
stimulating, wrapping or exercising the skin of the body.
Allergy
Elimination [NAET]: An extremely effective method
of relieving the unusual sensitivity allergy sufferers
have to one or more substances. This treatment utilizes
acupuncture meridians, gentle chiropractic adjustments,
and electronic acupuncture to treat all allergies. Unlike
traditional methods which use drugs, needles and injections,
NAET is a non-invasive technique that can be used by both
adults and children.
Amma
Therapeutic Massage: Form of massage based on
Traditional Chinese Medicine that combines deep tissue
manipulation with application of pressure, friction, and
focus to specific points on the energy meridians.
Anma:
Literally translates as "press and rub".
The first character An [pressure by a subtle, small movement]
is considered Yin, and is used for sedation. Ma [kneading
and stroking with more vigorous movement] is considered
Yang and is used for tonification. Anma is one of the
oldest forms of massage, and it is the first massage method
recorded in written form that still exists today. Anma
is shown to be the origin for many massage methods, such
as Shiatsu and Swedish.
Aquatic
Therapy: Rehabilitation performed in water and
providing functional restoration of strength by walking,
running, bending, pushing, lifting and pulling in water.
Aromatherapy:
Uses aromatic oils from plants to address stress, illness
and emotional disorder. Oils are used on the skin, inhaled
or used in the bath. They are often combined to give particular
effects such as calming, pain relief and energization.
Astrology:
The placement of each of the planets on a birth chart.
Used for personal development to gain information about
personality and finding one's own path.
Athletic
Trainer: A board licensed medical professional
that strictly treats athletes &/or sports injuries.
Athletic Trainers can be found at the professional sports,
collegiate, or high school level, in addition to clinical/orthopaedic
practices as well as in academia/teaching professions.
Aura:
Name for the "energy field" that surrounds all
living things. (Please see Energy System.)
Auriculotherapy:
A therapeutic intervention in which stimulating the auricle
of the external ear is utilized to alleviate health conditions
in other parts of the body.
Awareness
Through Movement: See Feldenkrais.
Ayurveda:
(eye-yur-VAY-da) In Sanskrit, ayur "life"
and veda "science" - science of life. A comprehensive
system of medicine, practiced in India for the past five
thousand years, that combines natural therapies with a
highly personalized approach to the treatment of disease.
Ayurvedic medicine places equal emphasis on body, mind,
and spirit, and strives to restore the innate harmony
of the individual.
Bacial:
Same process as facial but for the back.
BELAVI
Facial Massage: A cleansing, toning and soothing
treatment for the skin of the face and neck and for the
underlying muscles. If the muscles are in a better tone
the skin looks healthier and smoother. The hands and feet
are also treated, and it is a totally rejuvenating experience.
Biodynamic
Craniosacral Therapy: The study of the emergence
of biological and spiritual wholeness, originating from
the midline of the human embryo and carried in the human
body throughout life.
Body
Talk: A non-invasive treatment that involves
examining the client for problems in communication among
all the systems of the body and the mind. Body Talk "rewrites"
the body-mind to re-establish lines of communication so
that it can once again bring about harmony and balance
in the body.
Bodywork:
Practitioners use techniques such as massage,
acupressure, energy work, movement, structural work, deep
tissue massage and other body therapies to increase relaxation,
circulation, provide stress management, treat pain and
stiffness, and to break up chronic patterns of muscular
holding which have outlived their usefulness.
Bowen
Technique: Physical manipulation of muscle and
connective tissue designed to balance the body and stimulate
energy flow. The technique is named after Australian Tom
Bowen, an industrial chemist who in the 1950s introduced
the concept of having periods of rest between a series
of movements within a treatment session.
Brain
Gym©: A system of body movements that reduce
stress and integrate the hemispheres of the brain to draw
out our abilities for full expression and learning potential.
The experience of Brain Gym movements creates improvement
in focus, organization, coordination and skills such as
communicating, reading, comprehending, remembering and
expression through writing.
Burnham
Systems Facial Rejuvenation: A hands-on sculpting
of the face combined with the ageless healing arts of
head reflexology and nerve regeneration that awakens your
beauty and renews your inner self.
CAM
(Complementary and Alternative Medicine): Medical
practices that are not commonly used or available in conventional
medicine.
Chair
or Seated Massage: Short massage done in special
padded chairs with client fully dressed. A wonderful "first
massage" experience, or to receive stress relief
at work. Employees gain relief of headaches, neck, shoulder,
back, and wrist pain, becoming more alert and productive.
Clients feel revitalized.
Chakra:
In Sanskrit, wheel or disk-like spinning vortex of energy.

Chelation
Therapy is administered by a licensed medical
practitioner. It is a series of intravenous injections
of a substance which is thought to detoxify the body,
especially of minerals such as heavy metals. It is often
used to treat arteriosclerosis or heart disease.
CHIOS:
Employs spiritual healing methods which expand the awareness
of the energy healer and uses energy, color and light
healing techniques to catalyze healing in the patient's
energy field (aura and chakra system) - helping the patient
break free from afflictions and limitations.
Chiropractic
is the science of adjusting the cause of disease by realigning
the spine, releasing pressure on nerves radiating from
the spine to all parts of the body, and allowing the nerves
to carry their full quota of health current (nerve energy)

Color
Therapy is a simple innovative technique of applying
precise light frequencies of different colors to energy
centers in the body to restore integrity and balance to
the light network. This allows people to let go of past
burdens and move forward to a healthy, awake individuality.
Counseling
may be done by a lay counselor or professional counselor,
and may address such areas as stress management, health,
spirituality, mental health, self-esteem, family relationships,
issues of loss and trauma, addictions, abuse, communication,
etc.
Craniosacral
Therapy: The study of the emergence of biological
and spiritual wholeness, originating from the midline
of the human embryo and carried in the human body throughout
life.
Cranio-Structural
Integration: An advanced approach to CranioSacral
Therapy in which distortion patterns in the body are released
using direct action techniques.
Crystal
Therapy: Uses crystals in patterns to influence
the energy fields of the human body.
Dance/Movement
Therapy: The psychotherapeutic use of movement
as a process which furthers the emotional, cognitive and
physical integration of the individual.
Deep
Tissue Massage: Uses slow strokes and deep pressure
to work on tight areas to release specific muscle tension
and restore flexibility.
Dowsing:
The art of finding lost or hidden items by using your
intuitive mind, both conscious and unconscious. Divining
rods or pendulums are sometimes used.
Elemental
Hair Analysis: Human hair acts as a storage depot
for elements that we are exposed to over time. According
to the Environmental Protection Agency, "Hair is
a meaningful and representative tissue for biological
monitoring of most of the toxic metals." Toxic metals
such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and arsenic are accurately
diagnosed through analyzing human hair. Symptoms linked
to toxic element exposure can include fatigue, anemia,
hyperactivity, and delayed mental development in children,
motor neuron disorders, and headaches.
Endermologie®:
Uses rollers and gentle suctioning to provide
deep massage, increasing blood circulation to all parts
of the body. Stiff, tense muscles are soothed. Nerves
are calmed, and stress and anxiety are reduced, as a sense
of well-being is found.
Energy
Balancing: A general term used by many therapies
that describes the process (in their terms) of attuning
the body (physically, emotionally, intellectually, and
spiritually) to its natural high-functioning state.
Energy
System: Consists of three parts (Energy Field
- aura; Energy Centers - chakras; Energy Tracts - meridians)
which act interdependently and influence all life. It
is electromagnetic energy, a biofield, perceptible with
the hands and for some visually.
Esalen
Massage: Esalen Institute, Big Sur, California
has been on the cutting edge of the psychology and human
potential movement since the 1960s. The style of massage
developed there aims at relaxing the mind as well as the
body. Whereas Swedish massage focuses on specific muscle
groups, the strokes in Esalen massage are long and integrative.
Esoteric
Healing is basically the acts of perceiving,
interpreting, and balancing the human energy field by
working with the energy centers (Chakras) and the vital
organs of the body.
Eye
Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR): A
treatment modality used for psychological illnesses and
problems including phobias, depression, Post Traumatic
Stress Disorder (PTSD), and complicated grief. EMDR has
treated more than 1 million sufferers worldwide with a
rapidity that almost defies belief. EMDR has more published
case reports and research to support it than any other
method used in the treatment of trauma.
Falun
Dafa: A qigong exercise of 5 movements which
cultivates practice in the Buddha School to develop one's
energy potency and supernormal capabilities.
Far-Infrared
Technology: Natural temperature control. Far-infrared
ceramic-reflective fibers react to your own body temperature.
When you are cold, your body expends energy to warm itself,
far-infrared ceramic-reflective fibers absorb this energy,
but unlike other materials it is not merely dissipated.
The energy is transformed into warmth and reflected back
to you.
Feldenkrais
combines movement training with verbal cues and gentle
touch to learn how to move freely, painlessly and with
ease.
Feng
Shui: Oriental Art and Science of placement to
bring Peace and Tranquility into your life.
Flower
Essences: Liquid extracts prepared from wildflowers
or garden blossoms, they calm and balance the mind and
emotions.
Focusing:
A gentle self-help tool based on the idea that life issues
can be accessed and shifted through awareness of "felt
senses" in the body. It can be used alone or with
a facilitator. Focusing is useful in resolving issues
from decision-making to profound traumas, and in spiritual

Geriatric
Massage: The term "Geriatric" refers
to health impairments that are caused by physical changes
in the body that are due to aging. Consequently, Geriatric
Massage is not simply a pretentious term for Massaging
the Elderly (to make them feel a little better); Geriatric
Massage directs its efforts to specific conditions with
the expectation to improve them. Geriatric Massage differs
from regular massage by using modifications of standard
techniques that are especially suitable to the physical
conditions in the older population.
Giyame:
Means "God In You And Me". A shamanic method
of healing that uses crystals, stones, feathers, and other
Earth gifts plus Light, energy in various forms, &
intuitive work with the client's energy body.
Guided
Imagery: Involves using images to promote physical
or emotional healing. Practitioners may lead clients through
exercises or offer instruction in using imagery for self-help.
It is used to treat a wide variety of disturbances and
diseases, and is useful in stress management and for relaxation.
Hand
Analysis: The hand is an individual blueprint
of the work we have chosen to do in this lifetime to grow
emotionally and spiritually. The fingerprints record what
we came here to learn (Life Lesson) and to do (Life Purpose),
while the rest of the hand shows us the issues we are
dealing with as we work to manifest our unique Soul Agenda.
Healing
Touch: A system of energy-field-based healing
techniques developed into a curriculum, and taught by
Healing Touch International. The methods used include
Therapeutic Touch, the work of Brugh Joy MD, Barbara Brennan,
Janet Mentgen, and others. Practitioners may be educated
at several levels and certified, upon completion, by Healing
Touch International.
Herbalist:
One who collects or grows herbs; one who practices
healing by the use of herbs.
Herbology:
The study of herbs and their uses.
Holistic
Counseling: Generally counseling from a holistic
perspective; integrating body, mind, emotions, and spirit.
It may address areas of health and wellness, or be directed
toward issues considered to be mental health concerns,
such as depression and trauma.
Homeopathy:
A medical system based on the belief that "like
cures like" - that is, that illness can be cured
by taking a minute dose of a substance, that is, if a
substance can cause symptoms in a healthy person, then
it can stimulate self-healing of similar symptoms in a
sick person.
Hot
Stone Therapy: The use of heated stones as a
therapeutic modality to warm the fascia, invigorate the
circulatory and lymphatic systems and calm the nervous
system.
HypnoBirthing:
A unique method of relaxed, natural childbirth education,
enhanced by hypnosis techniques, that allows women to
use their natural instincts to bring about a safer, easier,
more comfortable birthing in a way that most mirrors nature.
Hypnotherapy:
The application of hypnosis as a form of treatment, usually
for relieving pain or conditions related to one's state
of mind.
Integrated
Medical Model: A conventional medical practice
integrated with complementary and/or alternative modalities.
Iridology:
It is said the eyes are the windows of the soul. According
to the founder of iridology, Ignaz Peczely, eyes give
us a pretty good picture of the body as well. Developed
in the late 1880s, iridology is a form of diagnosing our
physical condition, as well as other useful information.
Jin
Shin Do: Jin Shin Do Bodymind Acupressure combines
gentle yet deep finger pressure on specific acu-points
with body focusing techniques, to help release physical
and emotional tension and armoring. Developed by Iona
Teeguarden, this body-mind approach is a unique synthesis
of traditional Japanese acupressure techniques, classic

Jin
Shin Jyutsu: An oriental healing method used
to harmonize the energy flow in the body. Practitioners

of Massage & Bodywork Therapy defines Massage and
Bodywork Therapy as "Systems of activity applied
to the soft tissues of the human body for therapeutic,
educational, or relaxation purposes. The application may
include: (a) Pressure, friction, stroking, rocking, kneading,
percussion, or passive or active stretching within the
normal anatomical range of movement; (b) Complementary
methods, including the external application of water,
heat, cold, lubricants, and other topical preparations;
(c) The use of mechanical devices that mimic or enhance
actions that may possibly be done by the hands."

Astrology: The branch of astrology devoted to
the study of the human body, disease and health according
to astrological symbolism portrayed in a horoscope.

Massage: The American Medical Massage Association
definition: "A system of manually applied techniques
designed to reduce pain, establish normal tissue tension,

the movement of the musculoskeletal system. A scientifically
based method of manual therapy that seeks a clear understanding

connective tissue healing and treatment."
Medical
Yoga: A gentle, restorative yoga practice suitable

cancer and those recovering from orthopedic surgery.
Meditation:
The stilling of the mind through various methods, so that
higher states of consciousness may be perceived and attained.
Meridian:

Microdermabrasion:
This procedure enables the dead skin cells to
be abraded and then whisked away by vacuum suction.
Mind-Heart
Intelligence refers to research based data proving
the existence of a critical link between brain, heart,
and emotions and that by intentionally controlling this
intricate system, there are many benefits. In organizations,
benefits may include a climate of cooperation, better
communication, innovation, and well-being. Benefits for
the individual may include helping regulate hormonal balance,

Myofascial
Release: A technique that releases chronic pain
patterns in the muscles and surrounding fascia with slow
gentle sustained pressure, which allows the area to elongate
and relax.
Nambudripad
Allergy Elimination Technique: N.A.E.T. practitioners
use a technique called muscle testing to find what you're
allergic to, and they eliminate your allergies by performing
acupressure and acupuncture while you hold the offending

Natural
Foods Counseling: Information for people wanting
to adopt a diet that is healthier for both themselves

Nia:

Rising Yoga Therapy: Designed to help clients
achieve greater spiritual balance. A therapy session combines

be considered a body-oriented psychotherapy.
Physical
Therapist: A board licensed medical professional,
typically earning a Masters Degree or higher, who is an
expert of exercise, anatomy & physiology. Physical
Therapists diagnose & treat musculoskeletal &
neuromuscular disorders and prescribe exercise as intervention.
A physical therapist can be a "general practitioner"
or can specialize in a specific field, such as but not
limited to sports therapy, chronic pain, women's health,
manual therapy, orthopaedics, pediatrics, geriatrics,
or hand.
Pilates:
Pilates exercises stretch and tone the entire
body while focusing on the core abdominal and back muscles
(the "powerhouse"). The technique emphasizes
proper alignment and precise movements to provide a balanced
and challenging workout. The exercises focus on strengthening
the core of the body, allowing for greater stabilization
of the torso, improved posture and increased range of
motion in the joints.
PiMag
Water Products: These products transform regular
tap water into a high-energy, "living water"
or Pi water, providing the body with water it can fully
absorb. This is accomplished by optimizing mineral content

Therapy: A holistic health care program designed

Reading:
An information received by a reader who receives that
information psychically on demand.
Rebirthing:
A healing process that uses consultation, affirmations,
and a specific technique of conscious, connected breathing
to release patterns and beliefs that may prevent full
realization of goals and desires. Rebirthing can help
clear limiting psychological conditions, release toxins
and tensions from the body, restore the body's naturally
functional breathing, and promote an increased feeling

Reflexology:
A form of massage based on the concept that areas
on the hands and feet correspond to specific organs and
tissues of the body. By massaging these points a practitioner

Registered
Yoga Teacher: Credentials given by The Yoga Alliance,
a nonprofit agency which provides universal standards
for yoga teachers. A teacher can be registered at the
200 hour or 500 hour level, depending on their years &
the depth of their yoga knowledge & experience.
Reiki:
A healing approach which uses light touch to
channel healing energy to the body. It can be used to
treat physical as well as emotional difficulties and may
assist the recipient to achieve spiritual clarity.
Resolution
Therapy: An experiential therapy that enables
